About the pattern and hot air balloon
A knitted hot air balloon in lovely wool and raffia makes a pretty decoration for any nursery. The balloon itself is worked in garter stitch, in 8 panels that are seamed together. Further, stitches are picked up for the top and bottom of the balloon, which are worked in the round. The ends are finished with i-cord for a neat finish. The balloon is filled with stuffing. The basket is worked in linen stitch, but is turned inside out. The ropes are crochet with either a crochet hook or with fingers. All pieces are assembled at the end.
Yarn alternatives
Vidde can be replaced with:
Peruvian Highland Wool from Filcolana
Varde Pelsull from Hillesvåg
Double Sunday from Sandnes Garn
Most types of raffia yarn can be used. Alternatively use a thin wool yarn e.g. Finull from Rauma Garn.
