About the sweater and the pattern
The warm Vea sweater is a soft sweater made for my grandparents in Vea. They are such a lovely couple. Mormor (grandma) is classic and delicate, and morfar (grandad) is safe and traditional. When I was going to design a series inspired by them it had to be a traditional aran sweater in delicate linen and cotton. Then I wanted to make a warmer all seasons version in soft mohair. A sweater that is just as lovely worn in the garden, on a boat trip or at a Sunday dinner. The pattern is made up of cables and diamonds – and if I have not mistaken the cables represent happiness and the diamonds wealth. And if there is a place I have always felt happy and rich in life, it is with mormor and morfar in Vea.
The Vea sweater is a roomy and cool sweater worked with cables and diamonds, with slightly wide sleeves and rolled neckband. To find the right size measure the circumference around the widest part of your upper body and add 20 cm for an oversized sweater or 10 cm for a neater version, and choose the size that matches this measurement most closely.
The sweater is worked in the round from the bottom up. The work is divided in two under the sleeves and worked flat to the top of the arm holes. Decreases are made in the middle to shape the neckline. Some short rows are also worked at the back of the neck. When the body and yoke are finished, the tops of the shoulders are grafter together with Kitchener’s stitch. Stitches are then picked up around the neckline and the neckband is worked in stockinette stitch. Then stitches are picked up around the armholes and the sleeves are worked in the cable and diamond pattern with decreases towards the wrist.
