About the pattern
Varden Christmas stocking is a slightly nostalgic and retro stocking that reminds me of my grandparents’ Christmas decorations in Varden. Red bows, lots of colour, and delicate candles. The stocking is worked from the top down. You start with a double rib stitch edge, then work in colourwork up to the heel. The heel is shaped with short rows that are worked flat across half the stitches. Then another set of short rows is worked to resolve the first set of turning stitches until all stitches have bene resolved. Then the foot is worked in colourwork before decreasing for the toe. This is where the pattern deviates from a normal sock as it is designed to look nice when hung up, and not to be worn. To finish, the remaining stitches are grafted together with Kitchener’s stitch. Then a loop can be worked and attached for easy hanging.
